Monterey Park Treasures

When the term tourist attraction is brought up, most think of Hollywood, Beverly Hills or Santa Monica. Rarely if ever does one think of Monterey Park being held at such level. But believe it or not, Monterey Park boast several locations that are the worthy of being a tourist attraction.

Esotouric, a tour company run by Richard Schave and Kim Cooper, offers a tour that features three local landmarks. The Venice Room owned by the Lombardi family, Devine’s owned by Chris Horn and family and our very own Jardin El Encanto are subject of their “Boyle Heights & The San Gabriel Valley: The Hidden Histories of L.A. Melting Pot” tour. As you can imagine by the title of the tour, the bus winds through Boyle Heights and ends with tea and wine tasting in Monterey Park.

Richard and Kim will tell you the early history of the buildings, the businesses as well as the families that operate them. He also covers a brief history of Monterey Park from its early days through the late 1970s when Monterey Park morphed from a sleepy bedroom community to the international city as it is known today.
