Spring Festival Celebration

On March 1, 2024, the Chamber hosted its Spring Festival and Business Awards at Capital Seafood Restaurant. The Lunar New Year themed festival began with the presentation of colors by the Army Recruiting Command in Monterey Park and lion dance by the Imortal Lion Dance troupe.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Honorable Judy Chu, 49th Assembly District member Mike Fong. San Gabriel Munipal Water District representative Mike Eng, Vinh Ngo, Monterey Park Mayor Pro Tem Garvey School Boardmember Andy Yam. Also present were former Monterey Park Mayors Lily Chen, David Lau, Peter Chan and former City Treasurer Joseph Leon. L.A. County Assessor Jeff Prang had a last minute change of schedule and was represented by his deputy.

Business Awards were presented to M & M Realty Partners, developers of the highly successful Marketplace. The award was received by former City Manager Paul Talbot. Southern California also received and award along with Garfield Health Center for their contributions to the businesses and residents of the City. Awards were presented by former Mayor Peter Chan.

A hanfu and Quipao contest was followed by raffle of prizes donated by several businesses including Home Depot.

The event featured a full Royal Banquet along with entertainment by David So.

Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library Seeks Applicants to Serve on the Library Board of Trustees

Applications are now being accepted for a vacancy on the five-member Board of Trustees for the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. Under Municipal Code 2.80.050, the five-member library board enforces all rules, regulations, and bylaws necessary for the administration, government and protection of the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. The deadline to apply is March 25, 2024.  

The board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Friends Room of the Library. Meetings are about one hour long. Special meetings may be scheduled as needed.  

Trustees are appointed for a three-year term and applicants must be a City of Monterey Park resident. Applicants are interviewed and appointed by the Monterey Park City Council. A Trustee does not receive any compensation and can be reappointed for another consecutive three-year term by the City Council when their first term expires.
